Custom Fishing Rod

I just wanted to express my deepest thanks to Josh for designing and assembling a true work of art. The custom rod my wife ordered for me through Josh has turned out beautifully. It is light, balanced, and just awesome. The pattern is representative of me with a nice inscription celebrating the rod as a gift to me from my wife. Thank you Josh!

I will post pictures when I have the time to photograph this gem.

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

I saw that rod and it was outstanding (if you like the Gators)!! Seriously, Josh's work is very impressive. We are now working on a light casting stick. This will get interesting!

I did not get the skunk off yet. But I intend on doing it soon. Perhaps tomorrow (Friday).

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

Here are the pics I promised. Thanks again!

Rod Button - For some reason the camera wouldn't focus on it...hard to capture greatness with a simple photo I guess!

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

actually, Ernie - I'm waiting on your blank still.  it was on back order, but I should get it next week.
I've got everything else sitting at the house, all alone, waiting on its new home.

I'll also be building, simultaneously, another rod for a steelers fan.  it will be the same blank as ernies first one, RX7 ISB 802.75, which is a 6'8" X-fast blank rated for 1/4 to 5/8 oz, though it does a fine job with weightless plastics.

ernies new rod will be an ISB 721 thats cut down to 5'10.  spiral wrapped.   split grip, olive wraps, and the rest is a suprise for ernie to see when he gets his hands on it.

I would have to check my warranty card, but I'm pretty sure that is the same blank I have on my Gblanks rod. I find it works pretty well as a spinnerbait/buzzbait rod also.

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

DD - i think the 802.75 is one of the most versatile rods at a very good price.  Its a great spinnerbait blank, but also has the sensitivity for jigs and plastics.  about the only thing i don't do with it is throw crankbaits

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

Very nice work Josh!
There is nothing like a spec built rod or firearm.
Either should act as a natural extension of the owner.

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

nevermind, mine is an ISB 842. I actually just looked it up and the website I found says it is actually a Medium-Light rating! I think it definitely feels more like a Medium at least.

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

one thing I've picked up Dan, is that the ratings like ML, M, Heavy, etc - apply differently from different blank manufacturers.  its more important to find a blank with the length, action and lure rating that you need for a specific task that to pay too much attention to what power the manufacturer puts on the rod

Re: Custom Fishing Rod

I couldn't agree more. Although, it would be much easier for the customers if the companies would standardized their ratings...Then more people would be comfortable ordering rods out of catalogs or online despite never getting their hands on them.
