Any water temp measurements today? I was out at a local lake and Mudkart decided to measure the water temps in a shallow cove and it read in the mid to high 50's! Was it a glitch with his equipment or did today's heat really do that much to the shallows? The area is very similiar to the shallow cove in front of your house Ernie.

53 F surface temp on the Potomac at the entrance of Little Hunting Creek and 57 surface temp at L. Mercer. The surface temps are reasonably accurate, I've checked this device (Smartcast sonar thing from Humminbird) against two thermometers at home.  The difference is the thermometer setup on Cedar is 2 feet deep versus my surface readings: I've read claims that the differences between surface and sub-surface readings can be up to 10-15 degrees F.  The sub-surface temps are obviously the more relevant ones for a bass, or any other fish.

Did you check the thermometer out back?

Water temp was 55 today but the thermometer had moved in closed to the shore.

Today, at 4:45 PM the water temp was 55 as it began to drizzle

Water temps was 56 today around 2 PM.

on the subject, and certainly aside from curly:

i worked with a guy who had a place on the shenandoah river.
one year he finds a nice 4 plus smallie sitting on a bed along a creekmouth.
over 2 days of multiple hours, he finally torments  the fish into striking.
he kills it, and pays to have it mounted as a testimonial to his prowess as an angler.

i hope the big sows can get on and off of their beds before the unenlightened types figure out what the deal is

If I see a bass on the bed, I usually leave it alone. If I catch one that is getting ready to spawn I handle her with extreme care.

Too many of us throw our fish back......when we should be more careful with the release.

Actually, many of the folks on the Forum like pictures. Taking a few won't hurt them especially pictures of fish with unusual markings.
