Jeff English and I made a late night decision to hit Fletchers' today. We were joined by Matt (in his boat) and two of his buddies form way back!
It's hard to say that we had a tough day of fishing since today was one of the most spectacular days we have had in a long time. Great weather and great scenery.....
The goal was to go after stripers and cats from the back of the boat and for herring, perch and shad from the side of the boat.
Very quickly, we hear a holler from Matt's boat and they are hooked up!
It was a 5-6 blue cat but his skunk was off! They also caught a few herring which of course went on a hook for bait.
Shortly thereafter, Jeff took the skunk off our boat when he laded this fantail cat!
I hope that Jeff will post the picture of the next fish that was caught in Matt's boat. They caught a nice 33" striper...what we came for!!
Things really slowed down after that and I wanted to mix some things up so I started jigging with this old favorite....
....and immediately got snagged....no wait....the line is moving and I felt a headshake. Fish on!! BIG fish on!!
I fight him for a bit and I feel the line go tight, this fish has turned on a rock and........GONE! I am visibly shaken by this but I had another one of these jigs so I tied it on....to the line I had just cut from the rig. Now, this jig is at the bottom of the Potomac. I could not believe it! Jeff will have to verify what I am saying.
After a bit, we decided to head downriver where the scenery was much better....
....and I was able to score a nice cat!
Jeff was sunning himself when one of the lines went down....
....and this guy came boat side!
For the day, we caught 1 channel cat (nice 5-6 pounder), 6 blue cats and 3 herring. NO white perch! Hard to believe that we skunked on the WP!
But what a great day to be fishing......

It was a great day on the water. It is to bad we did not get to see the fish Ernie hooked into. One thing I can tell you it was a big heavy fish.
Here is a pic of Allen and Luke with the striper caught on Matt's boat.
And a picture of Matt showing the guy's how to make it look bigger.
Very nice 33" fish. Way to go guys.

Awesome report up there. I think I will take the kayak out after this rain goes away. I've been wanting to try out Fletchers.
Sounds like a bit heavier line may be in order for you Ernie! Probably one of those 50+ lb Potomac stripers.
I also rig my anchor for a quick release just in case a big boat tries to swamp me or the fish of a lifetime hooks up. I have my anchor rope d-ringed to one of the old orange life vests. If I want to disconnect, I pop the rope from the cleat and let the life vest mark my anchor. Then I can chase my fish and come back to my anchor when I'm though. No lost anchor and no lost spot.

Go for it Dan! I won't be back there until May 1!
I was using Fireline but I think the rock (if it was) cut it on a rock!
I am still reliving the moment!

First chance I get I'm buying some of those jig n eel lures. I remember you having somme luck using that at the discharge.
