On Thursday, a business colleague (Dan Lord) wanted to get out on the Potomac so I called Curly to see if he wanted to go too but he said he was too busy at work. Ten minutes later he calls and says, “I’m in!”
So we headed out Friday morning and by 7:05 AM we were fishing in the Washington Channel (high tide). The weather was perfect and the water was as clear as I have ever seen it.
At 7:18, the lightest rod (1/2 oz bucktail with 1oz inline) goes down and we get our 1st striper, albeit a little guy.
We proceeded to catch a few more (Rebel Jointed Spoonbills)…..
….. as well as a couple of channel cats.
At 8:45, I make a call to a couple of work colleagues (Dave Robinson and John Campo) who are on the way to the office. I proceed to talk them in to going to Haines Point where Curly and I picked them up. They ended up fishing with us for a couple of hours and we caught a few more stripers.
These guys were in business clothes so I had put up the bimini for the 1st time to keep the sun off of them. Man…that’s nice.....what a difference it made!
At 11, these two had to go and get in to the office but it was time to meet up with Dan so we dropped the two off back at Haines Point and picked up Dan at the Spirit of Washington dock.
No less than 10 minutes later and a rod goes down and Dan gets a striper is in the boat. We like this! A few minutes later another rod goes down and he brings a keeper (20”+) to the boat (and to the cooler).
About 1 PM the wind really picked up but it doesn’t affect us much in the channel.
We never saw another boat out there! Final tally was 14 stripers and 5 channel cats. What a great day at work!
