So I got out on Friday for lunch and hit Quantico and it was a blast. The quality of fish and the scenery was fantastic. I also met a few folks who were really nice and understood that it's just more fun when everyone is catching something. It's been a great year for trout fishing for me. I actually met a few guys that I'll be tagging up with in the future for fishing trips!
I was able to assist a couple Marines and get them set up and they were catching immediately. It's always good to get people on fish.
The mayflies were out in force but I didn't bring a tenkara or fly rod, so I just enjoyed them.
Using the carolina rig with the proven garlic scented power bait (egg) on a size 9 or 10 hook I caught my limit in about 1 hour. Caught my very first brown trout too...wow, they are really pretty. Let me know if anyone wants to see my actual setup in a pic...it might be helpful if you ever want to give it a try.
Got back and trout being one of the easiest fish to clean....got them packed up and ready for the freezer. Last couple years I had to go buy trout from the market and it wasn't the greatest quality or price, so this is going to be awesome to be able to just pull it out of the freezer. We tend to go through about a dozen per year for trout dips and such for family events.

Brown butter with slivered almonds. Crispy skin rubbed with himalayan pink salt. French mustard green beans and rice o ronie. Now we need a saliva cleanup on isle 1.
