On the last day of rabbit season a youth hunt was organized to promote the sport of hunting. (we were not hunting youth's, but giving them a chance at the rabbits) For some it was their very first hunt. Each youth was accompanied by an unarmed adult to explain saftey and to help spot the rascally rabbit.
Before the hunt
First rabbit and a running shot
A group of happy boys
Father and son waiting and hoping.
Here is the group that made the whole day. A total of six rabbits harvested.

Sounds like a lot of fun.
Considering your passion and knowledge of hunting, would you consider posting the season schedule for the primary hunts (e.g. duck, goose, deer, turkey)?
I hope to harvest my first deer this year...once I get past my animal loving wife of course!

Here is the Virginia DWIF web site that has the seasons.

awesome to see the kids out there participating in the outdoors.
don't see nearly enough of that these days
I haven't been rabbit hunting for a while, probably 8 years now, I always loved watching the dogs do their thing
patrick - don't tell the wife, but I love animals too, espeically for breakfast, lunch and dinner

The irony behind all of this is that my wife is a diehard carnivore, she just thinks it is unfair to shoot a deer who is just standing there. I have attempted to explain the proliferation of numbers to her, but she retorts with the fact that we have been moving into their territory. Maybe I can reach deeper and discuss how harvesting improves the strength of the breed by overcoming some of the incestual breeding that is going on.

What does she think the cow or pig is doing when they shoot it in the head and then cut it's throat, to bleed it out.
There are more deer in Northern Virginia then there were when the pilgrams arrived.
I could go on and on about taking resposibity for what we eat, but:
I mostly like the fact that I don't have to count on our goverment in making sure my food was handled safely.
