As John and I planned out our annual Wicomico River trip (in honor of Quinn's birthday), I was getting nervous with the forecast. They were calling for some wind and some possible storms at 1p. That's a no-no if you are riding 90 miles to go chase perch.
Finally, I said we were going. It would turn out to be a good call weather wise!
We met up in Tyson's, got the cover off the boat and loaded up all of our gear.
Of course, there's a mandatory stop at the Chaptico Market and we enjoyed their great food as we drove to the ramp.
We splashed the boat without incident and made our 1st stop. The same place I stop on every trip. Here, we saw that the tide was really low and the water was not moving.
John did take the skunk off the boat but that was it here.
The water temp was 82dF and it was nice out but very muggy. No wind!
So I decided to head up to White's Bar so that we could rack up some numbers. Holy cow! Where are the perch? While we did catch a few, it was really slow there! I was perplexed.
But Quinn and I got our skunks off and we caught some variety!
Then we went to another spot and we finally caught our 1st double!
Did I say it was slow? I could not believe it. I was perplexed! Heck, I was even talking to myself in Spanis1!!
But let it be known, we were having a great day especially after NOT listening to the weatherman (who said wind of 10+ mph). We had a breeze once in a while...no big deal.
I then went to a spot that George and I went to last time and I got smoked by something that broke me off. It actually happened twice. But here, we started catching fish and I caught this giant crab!
He was ornery!
The fish size were better here...
And finally, our 1st (and only) triple!
Quinn caught this flounder...
...and later, John caught one too but he got off as John was swinging it to the boat.
We went back to where we started and caught a bunch more but it was after 1p and we were getting hungry.
After the first 2-3 hours of our trip, it was so slow that I never imagined we would catch 100 fish for the day! The accounting firm of Lipetz and Lipetz verified that we caught 162 with Quinn eeking out the win over John, 67-65!
We were satisfied that we did everything we could think of to get the numbers.
Retrieving the boat went smooth and on to the Market we went!
Not shown is a very nice shrimp pasta salad that Quinn got. All the food was great.
We did get a bunch of wind and rain on the way home which slowed things up a bit but the ride back was just fine.
Another great birthday trip in the books!

Great variety of fish + crab! Good numbers too. Plus, great food. What's not to like. I bet you sleep good tonight!

Great report, can't wait to get back to that area.
Last time I was out on the bay I hit a bunch of docks that usually hold perch and there was not a single one to be found.

Some of those docks are shallow. Perch like flats and shallow water but they need 3'-4' of water nearby so they can run and hide when the birds start circling.
The Wicomico is known for lots of smaller perch.

Glad the wind was kept at bay while the boat was on the water
Any idea what kind of fish broke you off?
Seeing some new things on the menu. Was that fried chx'n and potatoes?
Now I'm hungry!

Well, we speculated that it was a giant white perch...than it was a 33' striper! Most likely, it was a blue cat. It was under a dock so as soon as it took off my line rubbed up against one of the pilings which are full of barnacles.

Yep.

You put those Lipetz characters on some great numbers, nice work! The baby croaker seem to be everywhere this year, here's hoping there's a bunch of big adults around soon, so much fun! And I see pink in a few lures, it's been a hot color this summer. Temps are dropping, more stripers are invading shallows and the pickerel started biting too!

This was the least amount they've ever caught on our annual trips!
