Greg and I were undecided as to where to go on his fishing day so we came up with a plan. I knew that it was a full moon and that the smallies may be spawning (no clue as to where with the high, cold 55-56dF water). We would make the drive while it was cold (42-45dF). Better than making an early morning boat run!!
We splashed the boat just before 8a and it was almost 50dF! No complaining from me.
We fished lots of eddies and got no love.
But finally, at 10a, Greg got the skunk off with a very stubborn smallie!
This fatso weighed in at 2.7lbs! Just like Greg said he would!
I will have to admit that I told him there would be a fish there but I probably said the same another dozen times.
We would fish some very well known eddy water but got nothing else.
We heard a boat coming up river but it sounded different than other boats. Finally, at a distance, Greg declared that it was a hovercraft! So cool!
I had to get back a little early due to baseball practice so we were back at the ramp just after noon. And so was the hovercraft!
Lunch at the White's Ferry Grill did not disappoint!

Nice smallie for Greg
What a strange looking boat

Way to go, Greg! I saw that hovercraft coming up the river past me. I had a nice trial of my new vessel, but tough fishing. Managed a14.5" catfish on a skirted twin tail grub. Saw an epic battle of a crow attacking a hawk. Beautiful day to be on the water.

That smallie pulled like a 5lber (not that I know what a 5lber pulls like......yet) once she realized she was hooked. Caught it on a Green/Chartreuse tube with a pretty heavy weight. Fun fish. Ernie spent most of the day managing the boat in the current. Tough to keep it spot locked when the trolling motor couldn't keep up. So, he didn't get to fish as much as me (as usual).
Big question.....where were all the fish? We felt like we did everything right. Fished the eddies and seams, tried several colors (greens, chartreuse, white, black) and lure types (spinnerbait, swimjig, tubes, swimbait). If they were on beds, wouldn't the juveniles still be active in those areas? Even with a full moon and bluebird skies you typically can get some bites from the smaller ones. Frustrating! But still a beautiful day and a good lunch!

The river is funny like that. I had the same issue. I can speculate, but that is all it would be. I bet it will be on fire today or tomorrow when the water clears and warms a little.
