11-3-22, Lower Potomac

This was my kind of day!

It all started yesterday morning when I was on the computer taking care of some of my mom's stuff and I saw a post from Capt. Chad Koenig of Dog Days Charters...

...that he was running a 1/2 day trip out of Machodoc Creek this morning (departing at 7a) and he had 2 slots open. I was the last one in as it sold out (4 spots) in minutes.

I knew the weather was gonna be perfect but other than knowing Chad, I did not know the other 3 anglers. They turned out to be great anglers and great guys!

The morning started with a home made sammie of sausage (from Chaptico Market), egg & cheese. Good start!

We were on the Potomac and ready to sling baits by 7:15a.

And catching as soon as this guy showed up!

For the 4+ hours we fished, I don't think we ever had a 15 minute lull. And incredibly, as fast as the action was at times, we never got a quad hook up. Many triples and doubles though. I don't want to put a number on how many we caught but it was a boat load! Many keepers.

Taking pics was not an easy chore but I sacrificed a little fish catching to get a picture story.

I HIGHLY recommend Chad!

During the last hour, we found some great marks.

Spaghetti!

Since we already had our limit (by 9:30a), we were throwing back many 20-24" striper and one that was 26"!

Time to filet the fish!

I was back on the road by noon and after a little calculation, I veered off my course by 20 minutes or so so I could go here...

...which was a GREAT decision!

Easy ride home on a full belly!

Today was one of those days where everything just came together. All of it. It more than makes up for any "bad" or "slow" day on the water...which are rarely experienced anyway.

Wow...a great day on the water (aren't they all!!). But why are so many of the productive spots so far from where I live. Google Maps says that marina is 2 hours and 17 minutes for me with no traffic slowdowns on 270 or 495...and when does that ever happen. Seriously, glad you had a fun day on the water without any of the work of being the "captain" as you usually are.

The drive down (83 miles) was smooth but dark. It took 1:33.

The drive back was longer (102 miles) and slower but it was bright and I was fully fed. It took just under 2 hours.

It was well worth it. I slept like a rock last night.
