8-25-22, Severn River

I emailed George with my "demands" to go white perch fishing. Without hesitation, he accepted them. Then he taunted me last night!

I picked him up at 6:15a this morning to make the drive to Saverna Park where we had to make a stop to get some goodies for the HS Fishing Club.

** Thank you Michael for the generous donation!! And then, as I put the stash in the car, George hands me over a taped package (I swear, it looked like a package of coke) which contained many of his hand tied lures. Thank you too George!!

We finally arrived at Smith's Marina and we got ready to splash the boat. The minute we did, the young lady that takes care of the ramp fees told us that the brown algae has been around for a while. mad

OK, time to go but I had forgotten to gas up the boat so we pulled up to the marina pump and started putting in gas...maybe a few drops. The young lady there apologized profusely as their WiFi was down which meant their pumps didn't work.

I told George that I had a plan not to run too much and that we would be OK.

I decided to hit Brewer's Pond, one of my favorites.

In no time, George took the skunk off and then caught another one but it went silent for very long time.

This 19" striper was a boat load of fun for George. He was using UL tackle and 4lb line!

Finally, at 10a, I caught mt 1st WP!

Longest drought of not catching a WP (for me) that I can remember. I lit up the stogie to change up things! lol

The tide was running out and I had already sucked in some grass in the motor so we got out of there using the TM. When we came in earlier, George had to hop off the boat to take the grass out of the intake.

So on to the next spot we went. Water was brown but we caught a few including George's 3rd species of the day.

We moved a couple of more times and finally settled near a dock in some shade. Here, we had out best results.

Then I mentioned that I was gonna eat a snack and  George said, "we haven't eaten in about 5 hours". So we had lunch. I even brought a goodie for each of us!

Gonna be a light dinner for me tonight. I swear, each of those sammies weighed a pound each!! big_smile

I then caught a teeny croaker, our 4th species.

We then chatted with a yakker and he was struggling to catch perch. George threw his lure in and caught one. The guys yells out, "show off"! We had a good moment there.

I started working back towards the marina and we made a stop where we caught the most fish. We were about 150 yards form the ramp!

It was getting hot (not the fishing) so we called it a day.

Taking the boat out was a PIA. The tide was still low and the ramp is steep so we struggled getting the boat right to take it out. George did a good job of following my yells and we finally succeeded. That tired me out.

The ride home was long but very comfortable in the new (to me) QX80. I think I made a good choice for my tow vehicle.

It's always an adventure and today was one of those days. But an amazing lunch save the day from the slow perchin'! We caught fish but the we hard to come by. Lots of work. Slow and steady!

I was hoping for a banner day report, but hey, the lunch looked fantastic and I'll bet the fishing was good too. Too bad thee catching was off, but that matches the Severn reports I've seen. Maybe next time.

The cigar is what broke your skunk!

When that striper hit, rod bent in half and the drag started screaming.  I knew that wasn't a white perch

Man, that limo you got is one amazing fish truck.  Just breathe on the gas pedal and it pulled the boat up that steep ramp without hesitation.  And the ride is awesome.  I'm surprised I didn't take a nap on the way back to the house LOL.

Wife served dinner and I wasn't to hungry - imagine that. That porter was delicious washing down the sandwich

We learned a lesson.  On 90dF+ days - more liquids.  We were ok, but by the end of the day could have brought some more water.  Glad I had all those electrolytes from the Nuuns, pastrami and corned beef!

Thx again Capt!

Well done guys!  Even though it was a slow day it beats doing yard work!
