5-23-22, UP

It's been a while since Bob's been on the UP.

We started running up but Bob had that "top water" face on so we found a spot to try.

Oh, and did we!

Bob got hit on the Choppo on the 3rd cast! A nice 15"er!

I then got a hit (sammie) and got a brief jump but no luck hooking it up.

Then we saw an explosion and Bob hooked in to a river monster. The fish came up like a Trident missile, 3" in the air! But...he spit the hook. It was a big fish for sure.

He then got another on on top (13.5").

I finally got my skunk off on a paddle tail swinbait (belly weighted hook).

Well, it was time to leave but Bob didn't wanna go. I am glad I listened to him.

We caught another 11 fish in a couple of hours +.

An 18'er!

Anther nice one...

And then...the rock!

https://i.imgur.com/pmG3rNi.jpg Twenty inches, 5 lbs!

Just after, Bob gets an 18"er!

No clue why I didn't take Bob's picture.

Last one before we left.

So that was 12 fish (8-4 in Bob's favor).

B- 15, 13.5, 12, 12, 11, 18, 6, 12.5
E- 10, 18, 15, 20

I had to retire my tube after this...

...but it caught fish with only 3 strands left.

We coulda gone home at this point and been happy. But we went on.

Both the VA and MD shorelines were muddy from last night's deluge. But, we found some decent water after floating a shoreline.

But I took a snack break. Bev had left these on the boat from the last time out.

I have kidded Paul Naj about eating these for breakfast on a stream. He said he doesn't eat that crap anymore. I can understand why. It's all sugar. Nasty! lol

Once here, we caught 4 more.

The smallest one of the day at 5" (I may be stretching it a bit).

We saw a buzzard on the shoreline. He was stalking something...a dead turtle!

And a few more including another 18"er.

All of these fish were FAT!!

The last seven fish were:

B- 11, 13, 15, 12
E- 10, 5, 18

We quit just after 1p which was my target to be back at the ramp by 1p.

Bob 12, Ernie 7. We had 1- 20 and 3- 18's. And a bunch of fat 15's!

We caught fish all day except between 10:15-11:15 or so.

The wind was a PIA at times but not really a factor.

We saw one boat come up the river but when they saw Bob on board, they turned around. We were by ourselves all day.

A good six hours of fishing indeed!

Time to go fishin' again!

Way to go fellas, gotta say that the reports this year from local rivers are on the upswing!  But I think that Bob character can catch fish in swimming pools ;-)

Give me a heads up next time you are gonna be up here. Ain't like the old days but certainly more promising.

Great job!  I wanted to go out today, but had an appointment at 12 that screwed that idea.  Topwater fish is my dream now.

While it’s true I’m no longer eating things like pop tarts, or any processed sugar for that matter, I’d eat a bag of those for fishing like that.

Great day fellas.
