4-29-22, 'doah

This time, Greg joined my on a 'doah float with CT Campbell.

It was downright chilly this morning but it did not take long for the sun to warm things up. Plus...we had little to no wind with blue bird skies!

I'll say it up front, it was a dink fest to day (@3 dz fish) with a couple of heart breaks and a lot of Keitech tail bite offs!

Anyway, it was still a good day for sure....

This stretch is beautiful!

I got the skunk off with a dark smallie...one of the bigger ones for the day (pic sucks).

He was caught right before 9a.

Next fish was a largie (albeit a small one).

Then Greg got his skunk off....

Most were caught on 3 or 4" paddle tails, white being the most productive color although other colors worked as well.

I decided to throw my LC jerk bait and this guy had the gall to hit it!

We took a few more pics (didn't have much to choose from).

So Greg was the champ of bite offs...at least 6 on my count. These little smallies were active but where were the bigger ones? Spawning? Nope...we did not see one bed in the areas that they should have been in.

Right before lunch, I did get slammed by a bigger fish but he came unbuttoned before we could see him. After catching all of those dinks, I really wanted to see this one. Not a monster but some nice pullage.

We ate lunch around 12:30p and just after, I get nailed again. This time, the fish is peeling drag. I get him over a rock, right by the boat, and as we saw him, he got off. Yes, I cussed. Loudly!    mad

Since Greg had the best view, I asked him if he was as big as I thought he might be. Greg held his arms out wide and all I wanted to do was cry! Major disappointment but I was back fishing in no time.

We continued to catch dinks until the day was done.

I bet we had over a dozen fish come off. And that's not counting the ones that bit Greg's tail off. Greg also had a decent one on but we never saw it.

Will be back at it in June after they get done doing their thing!

Good to see there is hope for the future.  A couple big bites is good too.  Nice day to be out on a beautiful river.

Nice to walk out of Sheetz and hear Ernie yelling at me.  Glad to run into you and Greg

Agree it was a beautiful day

We got a bunch that were still in kindergarten too.  Found most of them in fast water

Hand full of midsized fish

Then I cast to a sand bar and got a hit.  Bill casted right behind me and hooked into a 19.5".

Guess I need to start throwing the ned more?

We weren't counting but estimate we both ended the day with about 20 fish each.

I had one hit that started the drag screaming with the rod bent in half.  I'm thinking big cat or carp?  Would have loved to seen color

What a coincidence! Greg and I stopped at Sheetz on 15/66 and I noticed Bill’s boat. Then out of the store come Bill and George, in deep conversation, and I holler really loud. They were startled for a second and then we said hi.

A couple of nice fishes there. I was denied that pleasure.

We talked about using the Ned more but our float only gives you a few opportunities since we can't hold a spot for long.  I did use it but no hits.

I usually go to the tube as the last resort when fishing slow. But in reality, the tube needs to be moved a bit, more than a ned.

Yesterday, I put together a "ned" box as I too need to use that more.  tongue  See, even old guys can change their minds.

Nice fish!  I have found that drifting a ned like you might a tube is deadly.  Water looks great.

Yes, agree. And I have done that. It's nedding in an eddy or deep hole that "bores" me. I need to move it. I've seen Bill keep that bait in the zone for minutes...

Neds, tubes or my silicon/bucktail head jigs all work

Yep...the most boring way (along with drop shot) to fish, IMHO...but produces great results.

SLIDER lift and drop technique - no boring because you're always doing something
