George and I were slinging baits by 0545 with high hopes for the top water bite.
Water temp started at 79df and ended at 80df. But the color of the water was weird. It was not clear but definitely green but it was a light green. Could not see a lure a foot under. Algae?
We both got some misses early and we were happy with that. But we wanted more...
George did score this trophy on the plopper!
We continued to fish the area but switched to subsurface.
George got bit again!
Chunky and feisty...not George, the fish!
BTW, no sign of Speedo Man today!
We continued down river (been a long time since I've done this) and fished the MD shoreline. No bites in the hour we spent so we headed down to fish the pushwater of Seneca Breaks.
Not ONE bite! We were perplexed and bummed!
We ran upriver a bit and were seeing lots of minners. Sometimes, they were skittering. We got a few bites when we threw in the general area and George did connect with another healthy 13"er!
At one point, it looked like George got hung up but it didn't look right. He managed to get free and all of the sudden a big carp torpedoes out of the water and crosses over the bow of the boat! That was cool!
It looks that that 2-3 week run we had has fizzled...
We called it at 1115 and by noon, I was on the way out of park.

thanks for the report. The look on your face makes the tough times go away. I bet that carp was a blast...sounds like it could've slapped you down! lol

That carp was a WTF moment. I'm believe I foul hooked the carp thinking I was hung up on the bottom. Next thing I know my bait is free and the carp is torpedoing over he bow of the boat right in front of me. I looked at Ernie and he's like "Did you see that?"
That was one strange perpendicular line on that second smallie.
We both were casting to perfect water that should have been holding fish.
Thx again Ernie for running my Chunky and feisty butt around the river LOL
I ended up working the rest of the day. Almost feel asleep during a very very boring Zoom meeting. But then was brought back to life with a crisis and just finished working.

Glad to see you got out. Sorry to hear about the fishing. At least you got something in the boat. Cool carp story, too!
I am surprised the water temps are as cool as they are. They were higher at Smith Mountain Lake. That places mixes pretty good, though and spots near the main lake were cooler. I will post a report by tomorrow.

Just saw that the POR gauge was at 1.2’...that’s low.
At one point, we wanted to investigate some downed trees. Could never get close. George had to lift the TM so we could get out.

Yeah, I saw that. Too low for me. No rain in the forecast and hot temps again. I hope it is not an algae bloom in the river.

And now...1.1’! With no rain on sight...
