Bob and I met up at the ramp at 0530.

By 0540, we splashed the boat!

Less than 10 minutes later, Bob's Whopper Plopper gets nailed with this healthy 15"er!

No sunrise yet...

Bob was happy for sure...he makes a long drive to get to Algonkian!

Then he gets hit again (WP) and this guy comes over the gunnel!

Bob's favorite fish! lol

He would catch a smaller one here, also to the WP.

I then get hit on my sammie....with this little guy!

Oh...here comes the sun!

And here comes Bob's 17.125"er!

This was a great fight for sure!

I then got hit on the Sammie again and had a nice fish on...and then off. I never saw it but Bob did. He said, "that was a nice fish"! How nice? No clue but it felt good. Miss #1!

Once we finished the drift (if I could do a replay, I would do some of that drift again), I needed to go back to the ramp so that we could give George a play by play of the early morning bite. Nah...I left my phone in the car and I went to retrieve it but we did run into George at the ramp for a chat.

Once we got back out, I looked for some areas of interest (had received some intel) but the water there was way too low. So to the bottom of the chute we went!

It was slow up there. A few BG bites but finally, I connected with a small fish but he got off. A few minutes later, I told Bob to throw in the wood and he connected with this fatso 14.5"er!

We ran up the chute as I was anxious to get to the rocky ledges.

But man, that was a disappointment. It was only 0800 or so and the sun was already warming up up. Bob did have one on here momentarily but we never say it.

We went across to fish the lone log sticking out of the water but we only got one hit. I had one on for a split but can't count is as a lost fish because I don't think he was hooked.

We ran into a fella with a Tracker (prop) and he was throwing cranks but having no luck. He did get a bunch of backlashes that we saw... tongue

I was getting ready to run somewhere else but Bob pointed to an area and wanted to fish some shade (and get under it). So I obliged. Around 1000, I caught this 12"er (minus .125")!

He was fat, feisty and gave me a great battle on my ML stick!

Then Bob gets hammered! He says, "nice fish"! I say, "nice kittie!"!

Bob wanted no part of a picture with it so I put the kittie in front of his face and took a picture...so I thought! No pic!

We ended up doing a slow drift in the 3-6' water but got no bites and called it at 1130.

I had the boat put away by 1215.

In total, Bob caught 3 cats, 2 nice smallies and the fat LMB.

I caught 2 small smallies.

We had less bites and lost fish than the few previous trips but Bob's 2 smallies qualified the day!

For me, lunch was a 1/4lb half smoke (cheddar & jalapeno) w/ grilled onions and spicy mustard from the Filling Co.  It was good!

Re: 7-16-21, UP

I heard the sound of a motor coming up river and thought to myself "Self, I recognize that sound"

And I was right, off the tip of the island I see the SS Rojas speeding to the ramp

Nice smallie in the Hawg Trough Bob!

Nice seeing you this morning - ended up running into a bunch of deer on the rest of the walk.  They were everywhere.  I was hoping the fish would be for you too

At least you got some of the morning topwater bite.  Nice fish, Bob!  Hard to justify staying out when it's this hot.  We need some cooler rain.  Nice report.

The occasional light breeze was nice. Finding shaded areas (after 1000) with some water depth was a challenge. Not bad out except no bites late. The parking lot was HOT!

Saw deer when I drove in to the park.

We saw several eagles, white egrets, green herons, ospreys, blue herons and a hawk.

Very cool.

Two observations:

1) Someone looks tired

2) Love the 80's headband, Ernie!

The headband is to stop the sweat from dripping in my eyes. I use it for biking and walking. Not sure I ever wore one for style…

Bob had plenty of gittyup but he does get up very early to meet me at 0530.

Re: 7-16-21, UP

I was thinking that he would have to get up super early to be there by 5:30am.  I am usually very tired when I go super early.  I sometimes do not sleep well on the night before either.  I was just ribbing you about the headband.  Took me back to when they were the rage.
