Lake Teedyuskung & Lake Wallenpaupak (Poconos) 6/21 - 6/24

My wife's family books a trip to Woodloch Resort every few years and is right on Lake Teedyuskung. I didn't bring any tackle because I didn't think I'd have any time, but my wife and her family were nice enough to let me get out a couple hours a day...so I bought some tackle at the local Walmart, and a Abu Blackmax rod/reel combo for $60. It was actually quite nice for the price. I was able to get a few fish on various baits, including a popper. Surprising I didn't get any smallmouth in the lake, but I did get a bunch of nibbles on a 7" worm out in the middle of the lake, I think they were Rockbass.

I wanted to go on a wading guide with my brother-in-law, but the trips were just too far away for us to drive to because we only had a short window to fish. So we ended up booking a bass charter on the big local lake, Wallenpaupak. We launched at 6AM and were back at the dock at 10AM. The guide was interesting...not sure if I would go with him again. I guess I've been spoiled by our local charter captains, or just haven't gone on enough but he was probably the first guide I'd probably not recommend. Biggest peave was that he fished up front. I get that some guides don't have a remote TM, but still he can control the boat and look for signs of fish or help out his clients. Example...my BIL tangled up his lure pretty good, he's not a fisherman and only goes with me on guided trips when we do vacations....I had to go back there and clip and retie his lure when the Capt should have done it right away. I was catching some fish and I could tell my BIL was not comfortable with what he was throwing so I had to suggest what to throw....basically I was doing the Capt work for him while he was fishing.

The only good thing out of the trip was that I caught my first double up, using a crankbait on a bank with rocks.

But the biggest highlight of the trip was the wooden horse racing. Backstory: My wife's maternal grandparents also came here with their friends and children in their mid-40's and never won any of the horse races. The last time we came here was about 10 years ago when my wife's grandparents were alive, and both are now deceased. But the last time we were here we won about $800, the last race is a horse auction where the highest bidder wins the horse and we bet on #6. We did the same thing this time, bought horse #6, named it the same thing as 10 years ago.....we won again! Bonus for the evening was a local IPA from Wallenpaupak brewing Co. named "Largemouth Bass"....I'm not a big IPA fan, but I couldn't pass that up.

This is so awesome.

After you fish with Mike and Dave, guys like the guy you hired will irritate you.

I know a couple of local guides who do the same thing. They are "locating" fish for you. Nope! You are paying them to fish while you use their boat.

Anyway, looks like an all around good time...and some fish were caught!

Time to go fishin' again!
