Mattawoman 6/10/21

Today looked like the best day to fish over the next few days so my dad and hit the ramp at 6:30AM, no one else there...usually the guy with the red pick up with the Army sticker is there before me. High tide was 8:30AM, so the plan was to hit the first set of pads where the water rushes by.

Gotta love when a plan comes together, first fish was just under 4lbs, and 19"....I don't think I've gotten a 20"er yet this year. This guy smashed the Keitech Noisy Flapper, I caught them all on this except for one LMB which I got on a swimmie when when the sun peeked out of the clouds for about 30 mins.

And just my third SH of the year on the toad as well, got this guy early...just after the 4lber.

When the tide turned, we were way back in the pads near the cliff wall and the water was super clear. I pretty much threw the toad all day because it was overcast, and I threw to some pads next to a wood laydown...as I retrieved the toad, I saw a big dark shadow following, it was a huge double digit dragon...but she just wouldn't commit to the topwater bite, 10AM by now. At about 15 feet from the boat, she just stopped and slowly sank down into the hydrilla which was about 1' below the surface. I got the swimmie rod and threw at her but she sank down far enough to disappear. There's at least another foot, maybe foot and a half under the hydrilla so she wasn't to be seen again. She would have been my personal best by far...oh well, I know where she lives and I'll go back for her another time!

My dad was skunked, the conditions were so ideal for toads and swimmies...he's just too stubborn to listen to me. He was using his modified wakebait that he killed it on last year at this time, but they just didn't want any part of it. Off the water by 11AM...Hopefully he'll get them next time. Oh, the good news is they're finally looking up! Can't wait for poppers.

Nice.  I also got out for LMB on LKA this morning during the overcast skies.  Got several bass in the 2-3 lb range, but no snakeheads.  Sorry, no pics.
