I met Bruce and Roney at the ramp at 7:30a to chase some shad.
We were ready for a good time!
Not sure if you can see, but we had 2 back seats today.
It didn't take long for Roney to take the skunk off (just before 8a)...
...and Bruce and I followed suite!
We we doing just fine...catching some and getting some in the 15-16" range!
BTW, Roney does not like to touch fish. But he like to catch 'em!!
The tide was just about slack...
...and the fishing just about died!
We wend an hour and 45 minutes with nothin'!
I had moved once to see if we could change our luck but nada.
Finally, just before noon, we started to catch a few.
We did increase our number a bit but all in all, it was a slow day. A nice flurry to start and a decent flurry to end.
Roney led us with 16 followed by me with 9 and Bruce with 7.
No other species were caught.
Today, the slack tide (mid morning) did us in.
The other part was was more than annoying was the amount of snot grass we were picking up. It was all over the water column. Did someone out some fertilizer in the water? We had very few cats where we didn't get snot. Bruce commented that if we happened to pick up the snot early in the cast that we were not gonna catch a fish. True dat! Very frustrating to say the last!!
We set a time stop at 1p as all of us were hungry.
And as usual, no pics of the 2 burgers and the salad (plus chili) that we had.
Great fun with these guys (they fish a lot together), just sorry we could not do better.

Yall caught fish so that's always a win Dealing with snot grass is always annoying though.
No food pic...you could at least tell us your cigar of choice lol

I smoked an Oliva V and a San Lotano by AJ. I gave Roney a Bradley Black Market...he seemed to enjoy it!

Nice catching, looks like good company too. How was the wind? I was thinking about going out today but decided to work on the yard a bit...tomorrow too probably.

The wind was getting to be a PIA as the day went on but it didn't bother the back seaters as it was coming downriver. Casting to the side created a huge bow in the line. The grass snot was the biggest PIA!
I would stay away from there on a Saturday...if it can be avoided.

Yeah...this old guy is just hanging around. Didn't realize that my "mug" shot by Ernie showed a glob of unspread suntan lotion on half of my nose. Maybe that's why I was in last place in the shad count as my balance was off. Anyway, despite the slow rate of catching, it was great to be out on the water with friends.

Slow catching for me too. My last two trips produced a total of 16 shad. But I did get a 5lb white on Wed. Oh and sadly I caught most of the shad.
Still not heavy on the shad run yet.. maybe next week..
The shad liked a heavy dart with about 16 inches of line to a very small dart on a double rig. Spoons in place of the small dart also worked.
Got 40 Dart for 38 bucks on ebay .. really good quality darts.

I wish we had Americans in the "O". There was a huge discussion with some friends when one of them (fairly novice at shad fishing) said he caught a bunch of Americans at the "O". I asked him for pics to try to make a better ID but nothing yet.
I suspect they were big bucks or roe laden female which can get quite big. I've never caught one, see one caught or even heard (verified) of one caught at the "O".
We did hear of a 19"er (H-shad) caught a few days ago.

No did not, my 3 whites where about 26 inches to about 18 inches. The fin at the bottom of the tail is a good indicator of species.
If you look at the ID charts the mouth is what they talk about most. The tail bottom fin is tapered on the hickory and straight on the white.
I will see if my clients have a pic of them to help with ID.
I never take pics as it would cause many issues.
