John and I explored some new water (to us) today with CT. Campbell, an excellent guide!
We met up at Luray Caverns and then went to the put in at Alma. We would take out on a private farm.
It was a chilly start (low 40s) but no worries!
It was going to get into the mid 60s!
The only issue that we encountered was crystal clear water which means long casts. That's not an easy task with the fly rod but we had told CT that we were 100% fly or go home! There were no spinning rods on board.
I was able to take the skunk off the boat with this BG.
Then John got the smallie skunk off the boat (which is a very nice ClackaCraft Drift Boats).
Once again, the scenery was spectacular!
Now that we had some fish in the boat, the stogies got lit...and more fish!
Yeah, yeah...where are all the fish!
We did catch 'em but they were on the small side...
...so I had very few fish pics.
The clear water did us in. We would see a fish which meant he would see us and just like that...gone!
We had probably a dozen lost fish (teeny) and a few nice hits and hookups that we didn't get to see but as they say, it was still better being on the water than sitting at home or in an office.
We never saw another soul except eagles, hawks and herons. No bears though...
Ct worked hard getting us to the right places and we made the right casts (at least he told us that). The weapon of choice were 6-7-8wt fly rods with intermediate sink line and a sink tip.
We will be back!

Almost the identical boat our guide in Montana had. I really like the leg locks for getting a firm footing while casting.

Yeah those are just like the Yellowstone float boats, pricey glass float boats!
The Doah, the fall, the crisp fall weather, numbers day, still a great day!
No trout in that section?

Not there but up in them hills there are!
The boat is definitely comfortable and smooth.

Any trout that washes down from the small streams in the hills usually get eaten by the smallies
Look like a beautiful day to be on the water

It was a spectacular day for sure. I wanna find those smallies that eat the trout!

Jackson River and the North Branch of the Potomac
16" footballs
Years ago I got a 15" trout on a tube on the 'mac in water's you've fished
