7-24-20, "O"

At 5:30a this morning, Bob and I were texting each other because it was pouring out.

After I looked at the radar, it looked like it was going to let up for us so we decided to get on the road to the Occoquan.

After a brief rain delay, we got on the water at 7:15a and were fishing (or casting) by 8a.

The tide was on it's way in and it was bringing lots of dirty water into the creek.

We 1st started out front and a couple of guys hop scotched us (they got there late) so we decided to go way back in the back where I knew they would not go.

But it was latte at best.

We didn't get any bites on top water so I switched to a soft swim bait. As we were coming out of the creek, I did see some movement and we could hear some others deep in the pads. We threw lots of times  and nothing.

Last time we were in the creek, the carp were frolicking. Today, it was the gar (I think). They were muddying up things as well.

Finally, I threw in a hole in the pads and hooked up!

It was 23.5" and no idea of the weight. Finally, skunk off.

A few minutes later, I hook up again! It was either a big bass or another snakie. It rolled (and spit the hook) but I still could not tell what it was.

As we were headed out of this part of the creek, Bob was throwing a chatterbait into 2" of water when a snakie torpedoed it. All I saw was Bob reeling as fast as he could but he could never come tight. The snakehead (looked bigger than mine) thought he was a marlin the way he was dancing across the water. Cool sight but a disappointed Bob.

We fished out of the creek and tried the channel and I finally connected on a bass.

Pudgy little thing!

We called it around noon and sped back to the long No Wake zone.

Lunch at Brickmaker's was good! They have a more limited menu these days but what they have is good.

Apologies for no pics.

I had a crispy chicken sammie with bacon and cheddar. Excellent!

Bob had a 12" hot dog with cheddar and bacon and he was all smiles!

On the way home, it poured.

Way to go!  We passed the river a little later (around 2pm) on our way back from Florida.  Upper river looked good then.

The "O" way fine...but we didn't fish it.

Belmont Bay was way off color and lots of floating grass.

Welcome back!

I admire y'all squeezing in a trip in between the rain. Sounds like a tough outing. Glad you were able to get some pullage.
