I noticed some oil spots on my garage floor by the lower unit a couple months ago. Nothing major, just a small spot here and there. I finally pinpointed where it was coming from and it was the lower unit release hole. I figured it was time for a lower unit oil change so I watched a video and did it myself, pretty easy.
Here's what came out. The video mentions if it's cloudy then there's probably water getting into the oil and that's bad. Some parts of the oil are darker/dirtier than the other, is that normal? It doesn't look cloudy to me, but I don't know for sure.

Strange looking oil. Key is to make sure you have good gaskets for upper and lower screws/drain. I had lost my lower gasket and found mike almost empty.

If you leave it in a bottle overnight, does the lighter part separate? If so, it is probably water.

Looks fine to me....don’t see any obvious water. Big key is that there are no apparent metal shavings!

Just small shavings on the lower screw which I read is normal since it is magnetized.

I’m going to put it in soda bottle today and take a look. Thanks for the tip!
