I needed to do something different, a change of pace, so instead of my normal 4 mile walk around AV paths, I decided to go on a hike...and bring a rod (along with my walking stick).
The starting point was at Kephart Bridge Landing and away I went. The Potomac Heritage Trail is well marked and it is well used. My goal was to reach the "rocks" downriver on the UP.
While walking, I could see that Goose Creek looked really good. Great color but just a little pushy.
Some nice scenery along the way...
I did stop to make a few casts at the mouth of Goose (@ 1 mile from parking lot)...
...but there were already a couple fellas there so we chatted for a bit and back on my hike I went.
I reached the rocks (@ .85 miles from the mouth of Goose)...
...and one of my cousins was already there. He had caught a 9" catfish. I did stop and fish for 20 minutes or so but got no hits and lost no lures.
The main river was fast and dirty...especially towards MD.
For the record, I was there more for a workout that a fishing trip and not sure I would combine the two again. I thorough enjoyed the hike, seeing and hearing lots of nature. All in all, the hike was 3.7 miles and I was moving for 1 hr and 9 min. Pretty decent workout, a little bit harder than just walking the AV trails.
Although I had water, I did not have any provisions so I went and got a spicy chickn' sammie!
May have to do this again...

Sounds good but our governor wants us 6' apart at all times...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It would be a good thing to do now though. Finding fishable access is not that easy (where there is really a chance to catch some).

There are plenty of spots to cast a lure along the Goose and UP on that trail. Having a yak, even better. The water in the Goose looked great!
For me, bank fishing is not on the top of my list of things to do but I will visit the trail again and explore more on foot.

Took the family fishing a few days ago on Goose. My wife got a nice one! Good family fun.

Is the Kephart landing paring lot open?

KL parking lot is open and packed most days. Police were there Saturday ticketing cars parked along the "driveway" down to the lot.
Picked up a couple more

I need to check this place out! It has been a while since I've caught a smallie...

I had plans to get my April smallie tomorrow but I think the river may not cooperate. Hope the Goose is not raging...

Good luck!
