Doah at Morgan's Ford

I've liked fishing here upstream from the bridge in the past but couldn't for the past few years while they were building a new bridge.  It ended up being more difficult to get going than in the past.   I had to wade a lot sooner than expected to clear the very low water.  I was able to run the motor for close to a mile, then wade 1/3 before I could paddle some.  One of my favorite areas is gone, floods completely rearranged it.  Eventually I was able to motor up near the dam before beginning to work my way down and finally start fishing.

Just a few casts and I was starting out small.

I ended up with six smallies, none bigger than 12".  Also had a really aggressive fallfish chasing my small crankbait back and forth right next to my kayak before finally hooking up and then dropping off once I lifted it from the water.

I tried trolling a bit through a deeper section.  After dealing with a snag and getting going again the rod bent over hard again but it wasn't a snag.

Shortly after that while making some casts I thought I had snagged a rock again.  But it was this that stopped the crankbait hard.  At first I thought I had a giant fallfish. A 20" white sucker.  First time catching one of these.

The trip down was a lot quicker since I could ride the rapids instead of wading the shore.

In the past I've been the only one of the river, but today there were about a dozen kayaks and jon boats on the upper stretch of the river.
