I was deciding between going today or tomorrow and I went for today because 1) both days were forecasted to be fairly cloudy 2) lower pressure was forecasted for today. I got on the water a little before 5:30am. I tried whopper ploppers along the tail end of an island. No bites. The sunrise was nice.
I tried another area for topwater, but nada.
I headed upriver. I made one stop to check for a topwater bite, but got nothing. I decided to run up further. I tried a rocky area that looked great, but got nothing there. I ran all the way up (as far as I can usually go). I saw the water was low and mostly clear. Level at POR was a little over 2 feet. I worked the area good on both sides. No bites (except a couple sunfish pecks on a tube). The wind was picking up and the sun was out. I decided to float on the MD side because it was shady. It was almost 12:00 noon before I got my first fish. It hit a white chatterbait behind a log. I forgot to measure it, but it was around 14 inches.
I was glad to get the skunk out, but disappointed with the action. I let the wind push me downstream and I ate my lunch. I threw a couple lures in a mid-river rocky area, but no bites. After lunch I ran down to my normal section and dragged a keitech on a slider head, then threw a spinner with a grub and a crankbait. No bites. I ran over to float an island and toward the end of the island I hooked a decent 16.5" smallie on the keitech swim bait. It was in a pocket on the shore with wood. I guess I hit it on the head.
The wind was pretty steady out of the Northwest. It made the float fast. I ran down to the next island and tried a couple lures (missed a small one on the little buzzbait), but no takers and I was done. I was off the water about 1:45pm. Fish were somewhere, but I did not find them. Tough day.
