John Nguyen and I met up with our guide, Travis Edens, at 8a as the storms were moving through. We then shuttled to the put in place and were on the water by 9a.
Water looked good but there were a few muddy places, but not bad.
I scored 1st with an almost 15"er!
Then I caught a few more runts and lost 2 nicer ones using the ned rig. I am getting ready to retire most of my ned rigs. If they don't have a wide gap hook, they ain't gonna be fished by me. That's 4 decent fish lost on that lure on my last 2 trips! Aaaargh!!
John then caught his 1st smallie on the fly....
...around 13".
He also scored a channel on the fly as well!
Then it got really slow so we stopped fro a riverside lunch...
...of home mad BBQ (did not need the sauce, it was so good), slaw, chips, salami, cheese and cookies. And an RC Cola to boot!!
It stayed slow and we were miles form the ramp. John threw in to a nice spot (there were thousands of nice spots) and got the big smallie of the day at near 16"!
Cigars were good today too!
The weather was nice and we had a decent breeze but the fish were not biting.
I caught 5-6 smallies plus 2 lost. John caught 3 smallies and a sunny.
Towards the end, I got slammed and thought I had a big smallie but it was not behaving that way. It was a nice channel cat!
Would we go out with Travis again? Heck yes! We had a blast...just could not get the fish to bite.
We tried top water as well to no avail....
Off the water at 6p...one of the longest days of fishing in many a year!

Sorry it was not a fire trip, but looks nice. Let me know what you thought of that section next time I see you.

It's a great stretch. Lots of fishy water that normally fishes well. It just didn't yesterday.

I really like the pics and the boat too.
Did you add his contact info to the list of guides?

I will when I get some time. Fishing today, meeting tonight, fishing tomorrow.

Ernie - if you're sold on throwing a ned rig, I can make that happen when time permits. Let me know hook size and style and if it fits my mold, I'll take care of you
Now you know why I got into a beef with the Ned crew on RS. T himself mentioned a few times he lost big ones on a #6 hook. Been there done that won't do that again myself, but the ned's not the panacea it was marketed to be imho

Not totally sold on the ned but they do work. I have quite an array with the bigger and wider gap hook. Thanks for the offer but I don't think I will be throwing it much.
