I got up early and was on the water by 5:30am. The weather was going to be mostly clear and hot, so I planned to get off the water early. The water color was nice and there was a hazy sunrise.
The water level was the same as yesterday (3.5 feet at Point of Rocks). I set up to work the tip of an island with topwaters. I started with the whopper plopper and noticed very little surface activity, I tried the little buzzbait and even a spinnerbait. I finally got a small one on the whopper plopper. After no more bites, I moved up to work an island shoreline. I ended up catching one about 14.5" on the whopper plopper.
I caught one more small one on the WP, then switched to a grub and landed this healthy 15"er.
The bite slowed down and I decided to work the shady shoreline on the MD side. I ran up and floated the shoreline and I only caught one small fish on a tube. It had chased something to the surface and I cast to where it was and it bit the tube. No more bites on that shoreline. I floated the middle a while and tried different lures, bit no bites. I finally caught one on an underspin at the head of an island.
I ate my lunch and started to float the next island down. I caught a 15"er in a shady spot under a tree with a grub. I nicked it's gill and it was bleeding, so no picture. It was getting hot and I decided to call it a day. I was off the water about 11:50am and ran into Ernie and John at the ramp. They were just putting in.
Different day, bite was slower and caught no fish on the buzzbait, but still manged 7 fish for the morning.
