Bob and I fished from 10-2:30 (too cold to go early) and it was sloooooow.
Lots of cormorants around plus sea gulls, ospreys and blue herons!
Water temp was 48-49df all the time we were there. Very little current due to light SE winds.
Still, we caught 7 shad...most of them fat females up to 17.75".
Bob scored the 1st shad of 2019 coming in at 16.75".
Then I scored big. Bob got hung up on a tree and as I looked back, I thought I got hung up on the bottom but it was a nice carp (on a shad dart) that was probably 10+lbs! We did not weigh of measure it.
Then I scored my 1st shad with an almost identical female.
Bob scored next and then after a long while, I scored again (my biggest at 17.75")
There were 3-4 shore fishermen and 2 other boats. Everyone was connecting here and there but we noticed that they were all throwing a single (heavier) spoon as most fish were deep.
These guys come right up to the boat when they see you eating something.....
We moved a round a few time and we got 3 more.
All of the others were 16.25- 16.5" except the lone male I caught, he was 15".
Glad to get out for shad.
It was humid and chilly once the sun hid in the clouds....

It should get better each day as the water warms. Magic number is 55df.
Water was stained but it had some green.

Did a trip on Sunday and only got one white at 4lbs. Have many trips planned next week and hope they show en mass.
Nice shad BTW.

Nice job! Surprised the water temp is still under 50. I'm thinking about doing the Potomac this weekend, hope it comes up a bit.
