I decided to hit a warm water area between rain events to try and get my first fish on 2019. I got on the water at 9:00am and headed south. I probably fished from 10am until 3:00pm. It was supposed to get to the low 50's, but it stayed cloudy and chilly all day. After losing a new crankbait (possible fish), I finally caught a 14" LM on a DT-6.
I tried several different baits, but only caught fish on cranks and snagged a few large Gizzard shad on those and a deep diving Lucky craft jerk bait. I might have had one more bass, but it was not hooked well and pulled off. I lost the DT6 when my braid broke. It may have gotten snagged or I had a bite and the braid frayed on an obstruction. Before I left, I caught a large snakehead. I snagged it somehow, but it put up a nice fight. It was 29" and probably weighed about 6 pounds.
Not a bad winter outing to get my first fish of 2019! Trash was overflowing at gravelly Point and bathrooms are closed due to government shutdown.

I thought about you when I was working on some tackle in the garage. It was raw.
Great job on getting the year started!

Interesting SH catch...maybe it was following the lure?
