Greg and I went put in at Truxtun Park just after sunrise to chase white perch.
We were going to do some documenting but somehow, the camera was left on and had no juice. Greg is not happy!
We 1st hit the towers and to my amazement, we caught ZERO fish! I only remember that happening once before. We ran in to some other perchers (in a nice Jones Bros. boat) and they had only caught a couple little ones.
Hmmmm...what's up? We did have a huge overnight tide with the full moon and it was 2 weeks after the eclipse and it was the cal before a line of storms moved in. I have no clue what was going on so we moved down to spot # 2 where we took the skunk off with these little guys!
For the record, I caught the speck!
We (Greg really) caught some fish including some 10 inchers!
We then moved over to a new spot and Greg got this flounder...
...but that was it!
So on to another untried (in the past) creek and we picked off a few here and there. Lots of short bits and Greg did get slammed by a pickerel (we thin). He saw the back but got off too quick.
It was getting late so we went into Martin's Creek, which always produces. We hit all the shady spots and caught very few. Then, I decided to hit the sunny spots and we started to get them a little better. I think I had 4 in 5 casts...just like it's supposed to be. Including the biggest of the day at 10.5"!
During the last hour or so, Greg kept getting bothered by flipping bait. We see this all of the time but Greg kept after it and finally tied on a bigger spinner bait. He was rewarded with this 18 incher!
We caught at least 50-60 perch....lots of 10's but nothing bigger. The bite was strange for sure.
The forecast showed increasing SW winds but since we were in a cove, it did not bother us.....until we looked out on the river and saw the whitecaps!!
It was a looong, wet ride back. This is where I wish we had that Go Pro running. What a washing machine we had to plow through. But the boat did well and we got back intact.
Great day to be out!

Yep, I forgot to charge the GoPro. I am just trying video, so this is a lesson learned. The fishing was slow, but steady. 50-60 fish for the day is still a lot of fun. Ernie had his Grand Slam (WP, Speck, Striper) and I had mine (WP, Flounder, Striper). Ernies boat was a pleasure to fish WP from. The ride back was wet (2 footers from all angles), but always felt safe. The boat did great and the Captain did too!
The Pickeral I didn't catch was an interesting story. I had a knot in the line that I was trying to get out. With a ton of line hanging in the water and the lure just sitting on the bottom for a long time, all of a sudden I see the line going sideways. I start bringing the line in hand over hand and finally see a BIG green back breach the surface. I excitedly start pulling a bit harder and he spits the lure (never set the hook). It looked like it would have been a pretty big fish.
As always, I was just happy to spend a nice day fishing with Ernie.

Way to go! Sounds like a good day and good test for the boat.
