Grandson spent the night so that we could get up early this morning and go out in the boat.........Benjamin's first trip with me in my boat, now that he is 6 (almost 7). Had lines out by 7am and trolling for stripers.
He really liked my 1983 Hummingbird LCR 4000 fishfinder! He would let me know every time a fish showed up.
After a couple of passes, a rod goes down hard and line is squeeling. "Grandad! Fish on like on Wicked Tuna!!!"
He struggles for a while with the rod and reel, but the fish is just too big for him to handle. I take over and a 45 lb blue cat had crushed my white/pinkish deep diving rebel. I try to hold it up and get him in the pic at the same time....almost impossible.
What a look on his face!
We trolled some more and another rod goes down. He can handle this one. Does not look to be pulling very hard to me.......and this is why.........someone's lost rod.
It is now at one of the garbage cans at the ramp.
We decide to try dunking some cut perch by the Memorial Bridge. Head that way and bump into this guy.
The officer let Benjamin on his boat to check it out.
Parked at Memorial Bridge to only get one small blue cat. He did not want to hold it because it was still thrashing.
Main river was still very muddy and lots of trash in the flow. We headed back to the Washington Channel for one last shot. The 3rd catfish of the day hit and he handled this one completely by himself (except getting the hook out).
10:30 am by now and he was ready to head back to my house for Sponge Bob and Puppy Patrol.
Been home 2 hours and he has not stopped talking about the fishing trip in the boat since we left the ramp.

That is very cool!
I love the face he made in that big cat picture...but every picture has his face smiling or in amazement!
Looks like it was flat calm...perfect for Benjamin!

That blue cat was longer than Benjamin is tall . Really slimed my boat to get that pic .

Great report and pics! Grandson looks happy as can be.
Looks like a bunch more rain coming in the next couple days, I hope it doesn't mess the river up too bad, I'm supposed to be out there this weekend.
