Almost every time that I cross the American Legion Bridge, I look left or right and wonder if anyone ever fishes down there. Today, I did.

I joined John Nguyen to fish with Duncan McGrath today.

We started at Angler's Inn and took out at Lock 7.

This is an unbelievably beautiful stretch of the river!

I was able to catch some decent fish on tubes....

....but the big one got away (what else is new).

I threw a swimbait with my George built rod and got smacked hard. The fish took a huge jump and I still had him when he went back in the water. It was when he ran into the weeds that I lost him. All I got was a hook full of sticks to show for the effort. Well, the big one always gets away but both John and Duncan saw it and I definitely heard someone say, "Oh my God!". Oh well!

I did have another decent one get off by the boat and forgot to take a picture of my biggest one .

John was using the fly and struggled at 1st in the catching department but  towards the end he hooked some nice fish!

Big girl of the day!!

We did get rained on for most of the morning and we decided to have lunch under the American Legion bridge.

Scenery is not so nice down there....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/2017%20Fishing/IMGP0212_zps91boj2gs.jpg

But the scenery gets better quickly....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/New%20Kiko/2017%20Fishing/IMGP0213_zpshjdfj4pv.jpg

Towards the end, I got a hit but it felt differently.

He was right in the middle of a prime smallie area and put up a decent fight!

For the day I hooked between 15-18 smallies, landed 10-12....plus the eye.

Great day, great float, great guide and always enjoy fishing with John.

I've always wondered the same thing. Now I know someone does fish that stretch, and I know who they are. Bet you didn't see another boat all day.  NICE FISH!

I do the same thing every time I cross the bridge. I've always heard people catching walleye in this area of the Potomac. Well done!

I have always wanted to do that float. How did you get the raft out at Lock 7. The sat map shows no path. Duncan must have some wheels to roll that thing around.

Curious how the logistics worked.

It takes young and nimble guys to do the take out.

Duncan has a buddy come down and they break the raft down. We all take as much as we can up the path, across the C&O and on to the parking lot on the Pkwy. Duncan takes the frame (@50-60 lbs) and literally jogs up with it. Then he and his buddy carry the raft over their heads. Quite an operation. It looks like SEAL training.

Re: 4-17-17, UP

Just upstream from Angler's is where I caught my one and only walleye.

I have those same tubes, good to know they're effective on that stretch.  I've been meaning to go back to that area to check it out down from Angler's.  With my motor now it should be a lot less work.  I've considered launching at 7 Locks too and heading downstream.

That ramp doesn't look as steep as I remember it.   It was a lot of work to get my kayak on a wagon back up the hill.

Did you see the nude dude?  He hangs out right above Stubblefields.  Are all the fish walls he builds still there?  Kinda erie place.

How did he get the raft down to Anglers?  That's a long haul.

He's not around anymore....not sure about the walls.

There is a parking area down there. They take the raft apart and walk it down the rocky road/ramp. Again, a young man's game.

When I hiked Scott's Run in February I saw some clearly man-placed rocks making a wall downstream from the run.
