The drive down was nice as we stopped for the flight of beer at the Weeping Radish. As we drove by the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk the sky was all red and flush.
We checked into our room and about an hour later some guy starts banging on our door about parking in his spot.
My buddy Steve stopped by for the weekend and what a surprise it was to see him. His wife was just at our house and kept the trip a secret.
Next day I hit the beach at the hotel after sunrise.
We headed to Buxton Point and decided not to brave the tide and run out there. Went down to south beach instead and landed 40 some blues and few sea mullet.
Every one took a nap and I shucked some oysters and enjoyed some nice bourbon.
First day and first cast of 2017...
Had on one huge red fish, it shook the hook in the last roll after a 20 minute fight just dawn. I was all alone and was sick for not getting a pic.
My buddy Steve showed up and it was one big shark after another. Lost 12 plus rigs before landing one.
Later we went down to the airport ramp and landed one nice shark. Moved again down to Nags Head Ramp and the rain came in. Landed three puppy drum and few sea mullet. The little drums where about 17 inches each.
Drove home in the driving rain.
Great trip with a very fun crew.

pretty work man. I miss that place so bad. I have a love/hate relationship with sharks haha. when I am fishing for them they are a blast to catch and are very tough fighters. when I am drum fishing they are my nemesis. 8 oz weights are expensive and when you get bit off cast after cast they are annoying. there are some big boys around thats for sure and you can catch them right from the beach which is a blast. ive heard and seen some big sharks from all over the area but the south side of the point and hook is the best bet.
