Today it John and I were joined By Thai since he was in Miami. I had reached out to him to see if he wanted to go and he instantly said, "I'm in!"
It looked ominous before left to meet at Burt Reynolds Park at 6:30......it was raining.
But it would move off quickly and we were ready to roll!
The arsenal!
We did have a relatively slow day...3 people caught 10-12 fish. Capt. Craig was not too happy. But...the casting was incredible. We were all making excellent casts, just what Craig wanted but the fish just were not eating.
But there is some lemonade here. John took the skunk off with a fly caught snook.
Then Thai got a nice one, not his 1st but his biggest one. Can't remember the numbers.
Then Thai caught his 1st Jack and he loved that fight but he wanted more snook.
A little later, he gets hooked up and we were exited that he had a nice snook on. But nope, he had on a really nice red red (24.5").
Interestingly, we had asked Craig about catching these earlier and he said winter was better. Oh well, just goes to show you. Thai gets his 1st and biggest red....not too shabby.
Then we hit a huge dry spell. Nothing irritates a Capt. more than having 3 good fishermen on board with the fish disrespecting them. Well, maybe having three klutzes on board might irritate him more....
After getting some reaction candy (chummers, little glass minnow type fish) and seing some of the sights....
....we tried to excite the fish and we got some success. Thai caught 2 more jacks, John caught a moon fish (sorry, no pic) on a fly and I got a snook. But.....he was 36-37" and 16 pounds! Ran 3 times. What a rush!
Craig's coaching while that fish took three long runs into structure ensured that I was able to land it. It certainly was my personal best by about a foot or so. And on a medium baitcaster to boot!
At the end, around 3:30p, we were all spent from casting and lack of adrenaline rushes. But when we pulled in to the ramp, we reminisced a bit and realized that we had a pretty good day with 1sts and bigs. Can't beat that with a stick!!
We sent a tired Thai back to Miami but we really enjoyed his company and casting skills. And his fish catching ability of course.....
Before Craig took off for home, we huddled about tomorrow and decided that we would go back after peacocks, Mayans and LMB since our day on Wednesday had been shortened by the 2.5 hour rain delay and the fish were so lethargic today.
No one works harder at getting you on fish than Craig does. I've now fished with him 4-5 times and it's always an excellent time.
Cuban food for dinner tonight......

Those are some beautiful fish! That was 2 or 3 personal bests in one trip? AWESOME! Fished those areas a bunch of times. Honestly, Jacks are one of the best fighting fish around even if they aren't considered target fish like Reds, Tarpon, and Snook.
