This was supposed to read "out of Occoquan" but Mike's youngest daughter got a double ear infection and he stayed with her....great dad!
So....Bob and I decided to hit Fletcher's once again. I cannot remember how far back it has been since I fished Fletcher's so much in one season. Usually, I am on travel when the weather is nice and get a blown out river when in town.
We were greeted with another spectacular day....not a broken record, just very fortunate!
Bob quickly took the shad skunk off!
But I had other things on my mind. This time, I brought my MH Greenwater and started jigging an old Fin-S split tail jig. I got slammed and we both knew I had something big on. I didn't think it was a striper because the really big ones are already gone but this fish was peeling line for sure! The rod was bent over like a noodle and Bob and I devised a plan to land it since my net was not going to hold him. Expertly, he put the boga on the fish and I put the net below it and somehow, we hoisted it in!
We figured it went at least 30 (my scale only goes to 15)!
Man...that was nice on a jig!
Then I got hit again but it was ever so subtle....because it was someone's line. It took Bob and I over 30 minutes to get this line in (did it twice)!
We were hoping to find a rod with it but we figured it would be a surf rod! Still, we did our good deed for the day....
So we kept fishing for shad and head a good time. I landed some on the fly and some with the spinning. At one point, we both had near identical 16.5" shad on at the same time! Those were our biggest today....
Bob declared that he wanted some of his Italian sammie so he dropped his darts down as he ate. Then he got slammed and got a bent rod....he didn't want his picture with the cat! But it was probably 3 pounds.with this guy!
I also caught a couple of herring and Bob caught a white perch.
Action was slow but we picked at them for a good day!

Awesome report! So nice that you get to go fishing so often. That cat reminded me of this report of a huge blue cat caught at fletchers earlier this month http://www.anglersjournal.com/columns/t … just-big/.

Another great report. I'm so jealous of how often you get to fish.

It requires planning....otherwise, other "things" will get in the way. And of course, having a very understanding wife and the three boys out on their own is a benefit.

Fishing with Ernie is always makes for a fun, enjoyable day. Catching a few fish is a bonus. I'm happy that being retired got me on his "last minute call" list.
