4-23-16, Fletcher's

Weatherman said there would be scattered showers...50% chance....he was right, they were scattered right over the river on top of us for 2+ hours. Yes we got wet but we had a good time.

Greg and I were on the water shortly before the sun came up...wait, we couldn't really see it but it was a nice morning nevertheless.

We decided to go to my honey hole 1st and on the way we ran in to Mike Bailey. He had not caught any stripers and was shad fishing. Of course, he gets there around 5AM and had been fishing a bit when we saw him.

Once settled in, I threw the long rod while Greg searched for stripers.

It did not take long and I was hooked up and caught a few before Greg decided he wanted some of that.

Once he got the hang of how they wanted it, he caught his 1st shad ever!!

A nice 18 incher to boot!

But his bite died down so we decide to go to the next cove. Here, I caught quite a few but they were alll small. Greg was still looking for a striper when he got slammed with this 15 pounder!

He then caught a smaller one (2-3lbs) on a shad dart.

The rain would not let up, it was not a hard rain but consistent. And it seemed to kill the shad bite.

So....we moved back to the original; spot and Greg wondered if shad bit on top since so many were rising. I said that I didn't know and them he started wailing away on them by keeping the darts close to the top. I had never seen that before so i decided to try. I caught a bunch as well but Greg was on fire for at least 60 minutes. One after another.

I did get the big one of the day at 18.5"!

Since the morning had been rather slow for him (save the cats), I was really stoked with his technique and results! And the Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese was good!

After a while, the bite did die down and we decided to pull up and find some more downstream. We only found one so we went down to the white perch hole.

On the way down, I saw a boat that I recognized and pulled up next to them. Both Gary and Timbo seemed to be busy fiddling with something on the deck. When I said him they turned with this @40 pounder! Biggest even for Timbo. That was a cool moment.

We drifted downstream and marked a lot of stuff and all we (Greg) got was a 13" striper.

But we were satisfied and worn out so on home we went....

Great day and glad that another 1st fish was caught on the Targa!

Nice! Now you've brought Greg to the shad addiction. Yet another fishing trip to make every year lol

So much fun actually getting to watch the Shad take the lures.  We were getting 3 or 4 strikes at the lures sometimes.  I was laughing in the rain and Ernie was laughing at me!
