4-20-16, Fletcher's

Round 2!

After last Wednesday's battery debacle, Bob and I met up at 0630 to give it another birthday shot.

Spectacular morning!

The motor fired up right away and off we went....marking lots of fish on the way up!

I decided to go to my honey cove but got no bites....oops, wrong cove so we moved up and immediately started catching shad.

One each...and I forgot to take a picture of my nice 17 incher.

Without provocation,  since we accomplished part of what we came for, we both switched to jigging rods. It did not take long and I was hooked up on my medium rod...great fight!

This one went 26.5" and was fat. Had a great net assist from Bob.

We continued to catch shad including this double.

And then, when the tide topped out....someone flipped the switch and it was light out...the wrong way. Hardly any more bites for 2+ hours! I also think the moon had something to do with it because I heard a few were caught in the dark last night.

We did see Mike Bailey and Alex Binstead out there as well as fly guys, Trent Jones and Art Noglak. Trent and Art manage the fishing departments at Orvis Bethesda and Tyson, respectively.

We tried jigging on the way back, nada. We tried for perch at Spout, nada. We even hit 2 of the bridge pilings where there were some marks and all we saw were some happy herring.

Great day out and sure beats working on a Wednesday!
