Co-worker and I hit the Big A lake at lunch for crappie. Caught around 15-20 or so. Steve hooked into a beast. 14" and 1.4 lbs.

What's the standard crappie rig for these parts (smaller ponds, etc.)? Sorry have not targeted them in forever. I'm thinking a small jig head with a plastic grub trailer (2" or so) and use a bobber (maybe 4-6' up the line) with a split shot about half way between it and the hook? Light spinning rod with say 4-6 lb. mono or flouro (I guess braid is ok too). Or is a drop shot rig better?
Curly, Let me know if you are planning another lunch trip soon; I work not too far and could meet up with you guys if you want company. Thanks.

1/16 to 1/32 jig head with 1-1.5" white tube under bobber 3-4 feet. They moved out deep again and out of range after the cold snap Monday night.

I stopped by today at lunch for 45 min and caught about a dozen crappie, no giants but a few were pushing about 8". Interestingly I landed 3 small LM bass on the jig as well. Beautiful day to be out there; a blue heron swooped in and was hunting the shallows.

Well done! I still haven't figured out the crappie bite. Or the bass bite for that matter
