Well, I made the move and now live in Washington....and for someone who prefers fly fishing...this is heaven. Finally got out for the first time and drifted the lower portion of the Yakima River. Caught a bunch of Rainbows, biggest being just over 18"'s.
Caught quite a few smaller trout using a double nymph rig...Skwala nymph and san juan worm & w/strike indicator....after it warmed up a bit, switched to a olive chubby dry and started to catch some fish with some size.
Here are a few pic's:

Gorgeous looking area.
This looks more Scottish Highland than Washington State. Where are all the trees ??

I was fishing the Yakima in what is considered the "Valley" third of the river which is in Central Washington....after it drops out of the Cascades. Its pretty much "high desert"...it can be very windy. Get back up out of the Valley and into the Cascades....and you'll find the pine trees that you're thinking of.
Next trip is going to be chasing Sea Run Cutthroat Trout in the Puget Sound...pics should have a lot of trees....perhaps Sasquatch too!
