5-6 & 8-15, Florida's west coast

I had a meeting in Tampa on Thursday and I sandwiched two fishing trips in between.

On Wednesday evening, I fished with Neil Taylor of Strike Three Kayak Fishing  using his  Native Watercraft yak. We fished in Palmetto.

Neil is a former baseball ump who got all the way to AAA.

We put in and already things looked good!

I had my arsenal ready.....

....and followed the guide out to the honey holes.

It did not take too long before I was hooked up with a feisty trout!

And then another.

But we had to move as we were being invaded by gorilla snot!

The action was steady....but more bites than hookups. Lots of wind and close to 2 footers to deal with on our paddle back. Got wet but it was refreshing!

Still, a fun evening out on a new piece of water!

On Friday, after a night of darts at Bill Skiver's house in Homossossa, we went out in his Gheenoe Classic (16' w/ 25 hp). I was nervous at 1st, not knowing how stable a craft it is. But not now, it's an incredible fishing machine.

That river basin is an incredible place to fish. Water everywhere. We literally were within 1/2 mile (or less) of the Gulf!

The fishing was slow but I did manage a jack and a snook. That jack took off like a freight train. Lots of fun on fairly light tackle.

Bill had a nice snook as well. The fishing was finicky...lots of bites (not as many as Wednesday) but very few hookups.

Still, it's an amazing area.

Bill's buddy Kevin owns this little piece of heaven!

You can see out to the Gulf with easy. The middle level is in the shade and offers a nice breeze. Good thing we didn't stay long at the place when we stopped in to see Kevin. A nap on the beach chair would have been in order.

Although the fishing was slow this time around, it's still nice to get out on forein water (to me anyway)!

Yeah but....the next business trip is out to Aneheim CA and we start Sunday afternoon and don't end until Thursday afternoon. No time for even a fishing show on TV. Oh well....you have to take advantage of the opportunities!
