Curly and I met up at 0515 and were on the water by 0630.
We tugged along up to Fletcher's where we were surprised by seeing just a few boats out.
You see, the weatherman gave a threat of rain and high winds. The rain just missed up and we had a nice breeze all day....flat cal water! We win!
1st fish was a carp!
We then started shad fishing but Curly was after bigger stuff.
Shad!
Kitties!
Very few places like Fletchers in this world....
Our rods continued to get bent!
Then....catzilla struck! The biggest kittie I have ever seen....what a battle! Curly hooks into a monster!
Curly calls for the net. All I have is my bass net on the boat. He says, "where is your big net?". I say, "I sold it to Chris Campo a few weeks back"! I got a look!!
So I put on my gloves so I could tangle with this guy.....
An absolute monster that broke off as I was putting my hands (with gloves) in his mouth to horse him in.
Unbelievable!!
So we continued on and Curly jigged up a fast 25 incher right around lunch time!
Another nice cat...
...and another biggie!
Not quite catzilla but a nice one!
As we were leaving, another boat came by....
We estimated it at 70'. And no, they did not have any Grey Poupon.
We estimate way over 50 hickories, over a dozen cats and a nice striper.
Great day!

Great trip. He forgot to mention that the Catzilla was at least 60 pounds. It was so fat that I might have been able to hug it......just barely. The pics do not do it justice.......it was 4 feet long. IF you go fishing with Ernie........bring a net big enough to land something over 10 lbs..............Also lost a 30+ pounder at the boat with no way to land it.

It was a BEAST! I want another shot at it with my gloves......

Well now I feel guilty! Looks like a golden redhorse in the first two pictures by the way, one of a handful of sucker species in that part of the Potomac. What pound test leader were you using for that monster blue cat? I generally stick with 30lb Ande mono for my leaders but a fish that size would have had me sweating bullets.

No worries Chris...I had not used that net in 2 years and did not expect those monsters today.

Wow!!! That looks like a great day on the water!!!!! Nice fish all around. I remember a day when Ernie had a fish on the line and I screwed up netting him so he lost him. I feel better seeing it happen to someone else! BUT, I hate to see that you lost that fish.
Now you know he is in there. Your just going to have to come back and try again....and again.....and again....
