26 May - Mattowaman Kayak trip

Tyler and I went to Mattowoman today.  It was a beautiful day.  Light winds, blue skies and not too warm (until later this afternoon).  Got on the water just after high tide at 630.  Got the skunk off the boats about 15 minutes later with a nice little yellow perch

I caught 4 or 5 bass.  These are two of them.  One of them looked like something big had been trying to eat it.  I had a few snakehead hits on a frog, but couldn't get them to stay on the line.

Tyler and I had split up and I hadn't seen him in a while.  So, I headed off to find him.  He had caught 6-7 bass so far.  After I found him and started fishing my own area again, I hear Tyler yelling for me to come.  I was about 100 yds away but turned just in time to see a BIG fish jump.  He had it in the net by the time I got there.  It was 22 inches but only 5 pounds.  Had just spawned out.  Would have been 6-7 lbs before the spawn.

We didn't catch much after that.  The tide was just about slack and I was HUNGRY.  So we called it a day.  I love that area.   So remote feeling but still so close.
