I was down in Clearwater for business and I had asked Bill S. (Friend of friends from River Smallies, great guy and outstanding host!) if I could fish with him. He gladly obliged and today was the day. After a 100 minute ride, I got to his house at 1:15p (you fish when you can go). It was nice and sunny and 85. My kind of weather! The tide was wrong but we only had a few hours as Bill had some plans for the early evening.
It did not take too long for the skunk to get off the boat as I got hammered by a nice jack! He took me for a ride.....what a fight on light tackle!
Pictures will go up when I get home.
Bill then got a familiar hit and a very colorful redfish was on the hook. After a brief battle, he came aboard for a picture and then was released.
We continued to fish an area that was close by to the ramp...nice and shallow. Both of us got bites and Bill had a couple of other fish on that got unbuttoned.
A bit later I got hit by a mangrove snapper but he was too teeny.
We went back to where we started and with 10-15 minutes left to go, Bill got slammed! The fish went right to left in shallow water at a speed that I have never witnessed before. He was going right at the shore before he realized he needed to make a turn. After a great fight, another very nice Jack was boated. These guys have an attitude. Don't know if I can go smallie fishing again after that spectacle.
I really appreciated the time Bill gave me out on the water. The area he lives in is beautiful and there is water everywhere. And it does not snow!!!!
Thanks for the day Bill, I greatly appreciated your hospitality!!

Catching Jacks is so much fun. They are all over the place (relatively easy to find) and put up amazing fights. I was with you in spirit yesterday while I sat at my desk staring out the window.
