I was trying out the drop shot rig without any success. I noticed there were a bunch of little flies on top of the water. They were grayish in color, and were getting slurped up by bluegills! I happened to have flies on me so I tied on a dry fly closest in color, put a bobber about 18" above the fly and casted out. I got a hit pretty quickly, but I pulled the fly out of the fish's mouth. After a few more casts the fly started sinking. I thought, sure why not, and sure enough after about 30 seconds it was fish on After a few hits though I think they got smart so I had to move around. I caught about 15 bluegills in an hour, after an hour of skunking. They weren't large my any means, but it was a lot of fun waiting for the bobber to go under I was using a medium/light rod and the fat ones up a pretty good fight. I think next time I'll take a UL to make it even more fun. I only measured 8 of them. If I had known that there were 10 slots on the leaders board I would have stuck around and caught a few more My hands were freezing though after putting them back in the water so often.

7.5" I know the nose isn't quite lined up with the beginning of the ruler, but the tail is a little past 7.5 so I think it evens out

This was the first one I caught. After about 3 more I started measuring. This one was about 7" though.
Top 5 is 37.25". I know they get bigger around here but I'd stay this is a good start

A fisherman fishes the water he finds on the day he fishes. He improvises...
This, to me, is angling

I was pretty surprised at how well the fly worked. I have not caught fish at that rate. I am brainstorming some other ideas on how to incorporate flies with spinning tackle.

firemunkee, here are 2 easy solutions to throwing a fly with your spinning gear.

This torpedo casts like a bullet. Simply tie your main line to the pointed end and add a leader to the other end. Tie on any fly and start fishing. I like to use 18" of 4 or 6 lb.mono for the leader. It works best if you stop the cast just before it hits the water. This will cause the leader to extend before it lands. This is heavy enough to cast with your bass rod, but more fun on ultra lite.

With this one you pass your line thru then twist the top to secure it with the internal rubber band. The benefit of this one is you don't need to add a leader and the length to your fly is adjustable without re-tying.
I like them both, but prefer the first because of the distance you can cast it.
Ernie.... it's not fly fishing, it's fishing with flies.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely give one of those a try!
