Northern Snakehead

Charles County is running a naming contest to re-brand the Northern Snakehead to something a bit more appetizing. With a tip of the hat to Capt. Mike this one is easy... Potomac Pike!

Re: Northern Snakehead

I love the Potomac Pike but it was not me who coined the name. I did ask for permission to use it and received a two thumbs up from the inventor.
Name entered BTW

Re: Northern Snakehead

Voting is over for stage one. In stage two we will see three names and will vote on those names for the possible new name. Stage two will start 18th I think.

Re: Northern Snakehead

Phase II of the Snakehead Naming Contest will begin  Tuesday, February 18, 2014 and run through Thursday, March 20, 2014. During this time, the public will be able to vote online for their favorite of the three names chosen by our Blue Ribbon Panel.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Charles County Commissioners Meeting, we will celebrate the three individuals who submitted the top three names and reveal the winning name selected by the public.

The winning name will be submitted to the State of Maryland in hopes that the State will consider it as the new "official" name for the snakehead fish.

Re: Northern Snakehead

While on the subject, Maryland has added an invasive species catagory to the list of state record fishes. It includes Snakeheads (30" min), Blue catfish (40" min) and Flathead catfish (34" min). Looks like you get a certificate for keeping fish over the min.

Re: Northern Snakehead

Sadly it is a must kill to certify thing. When will MD and VA realize that we have fantastic fishery and income maker from these game fish.
Yes I said game fish.. not invasive.
I would like to push for a 5 snake head limit and a 32 inch one fish blue cat limit. No other limits needed and we will see a trophy fishery on the Potomac. Just set the limits in the Potomac as a 8 year test. Track the income spent by fisherman and guides to see if it works.

Re: Northern Snakehead

Wha...!?!? Terrible is the nicest adjective I can come up with. None catchy. None appetizing.

Garcon, yes, I'd like the baked Chesapeake Bay Channa Fish with a side of asparagus.

Waiter, how is the Asian River Fish prepared today?

Hon, I'll go with the Spotted Channa with fries and a pickle!

What spots?!?!?

Re: Northern Snakehead

When I filled out the ballot, for my name I entered those names suck. I did give the right email and phone #. Haven't heard from them yet.
