7-6-13, out of Aqualand

3rd straight day of fishing...once again with Jimmy and Bob.

This time, Bob wanted to fish his home waters in my boat so I obliged knowing that a Quades crab-cake sandwich was in the picture.

We met up at the ramp at 0645 and in 10 m9inutes we were fishing. I should say that bob was fishing and Jimmy participated because I couldn't catch a cold!

Bob caught 3 stripers in his 1st 4 casts.....a lesson in the making! He caught quite a few more....with some nice 19s and 20s!

Plus a nice 11" white perch!

Finally Jimmy got into the act!

And then the 1st of many cats.....

Here is Jimmy getting slimy!

And finally my 1st fish! A nice 21.5 incher!

We then moved up river to some really nice looking water.....I was able to nail this 5-6 pound channel cat!

Then Bob got a call that his wife and his dog were sick so he had to go home. Luckily, we were 10 minutes from the ramp.

Once he took off, Jimmy and I decided to fish some old spots that used to produce some fish.

our 1st stop was cedar Point and that was barren.

Swan point was next and what a disappointment that was. We used to get hundreds pf perch there and we could only catch one every 10 casts or so. Very slow fishing and very small perch.

On down river we went (each stop got us closer to Quades). We stopped at St. Margarete's Island and did catch a few perch including one that went 9.75"!

I then got slammed and this bull cat came aboard (on UL tackle)!

Jimmy kept hearing a loud bird and it was the local peacock!

He then got slammed by what looked to be the same fish I caught a few minutes earlier.

In all the years I have been fishing the Wicomico River (since the mid 8o's) I don't recall ever catching a catfish!

Now it was noon and the lunch bell rang...on to Quades. Our trolling motor was about dead too so it was a good time to move.

I have no idea how I forgot to take a picture of the crab cake sandwiches that were served to us. I actually brought the camera with me but once they put those plates in front of us, we went into a trance. These are BIG crab cakes...and GOOD!

When we left Quades, we were stuffed and happy so we decided to make the long run back up river and fish where Bob wanted us to.  Once we got there, we were alone and we set the anchor. I was too close to the wall so we tried again. this time it was perfect...except after aa while, we were drifting really fast (like at Fletcher's when you miss with the anchor). I hollered at Jimmy to bring up the anchor and it was like watching Popeye. Jimmy was taking rope like there was nothing at the end of it...which there was nothing. I lost my anchor. Somehow the pin worked itself loose and the anchor is now at the bottom of the river. The wind and waves made it impossible to drift so we were not avble to experience that fishery. So we went back where we started but i had no trolling motor and no anchor so I had to hold the boat in place in a washing machine.

Jimmy did manage to get hit once...a nice cat who also stung him too!

Lots of blood on the deck of my boat!

Great day to be out!

Re: 7-6-13, out of Aqualand

I knew today was going to be a tough one when my third step out of bed left a footprint in a pile of dog puke. The fishing started off great, but the dog hit every room in the house. By the time I got home my wife had already talked to Black Jack's vet who sent us to a pet emergency room. Sat there for 7 hours while Ernie and Jimmy were fishing, riding around on the river on a nice day and eating crab cakes. Sitting at the vet wasn't fishing, but it was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick (just barely).  Sorry about your anchor, but at least you still caught fish. I was hoping you'd hit the mother lode, gives us a reason to try again.
Now on to day four and 1000 casts.
