Today, we rolled the dice but we did not get a pass.....
Jimmy, Tyler, Greg and I met Capt. Dennis Fleming at the Solomns ramp at 6 Am this morning. Jimmy tended to the boat while we got our gear.
And it was a gorgeous morning!
The night before, Dennis and I talked about our 3 best options:
1. Live lining
2. Fishing the Lower Potomac shallows
3. Going across to the Honga
I chose #3 which was the biggest gamble especially after the storm Thursday and the big blow yesterday. Dirty water would not be our friend.
And off across the bay we went!
We stopped at the bridge to get the skunk off and we all got to do that.
Then we went in to find some specks....our target species.
There are some incredible fishy places in there.
It was at one of these places that Tyler hooked in to a very nice speck. We all saw him come up and thrash around before.....he spit the hook. I bet Tyler will be thinking of that one for a log time but it gave us hope.
But the water quality was not good and we struggled. Capt. Dennis took us to many places and we would catch a fish here and there, mostly stripers and this very nice perch!
At this point, Dennis asked if any of had a curfew and we said no. he was going to get us on specks even if it meant running out of gas!
Finally, Tyler accomplished that feat....
....but none of us could follow his lead.
We just kept on catching 2011 class stripers.
On our way back, we reversed what we did earlier and at the "spider", Greg got slammed and started to lose a lot of line.....
....to a skate! He did manage to pull the hook before any damage was done.
For the day, we landed lots of stripers, a few perch, a croaker, a speck and a blue. But we had a blast and we cast our arms into submissions. I don't remember fishing that hard to catch fish but we did and we appreciated the Captain's effort. He could have called it a day many hours before we actually did. He wore us out!
Jimmy and I made a detour on the way home and got some BBQ at Big Dave's in Deale. THAT....was a good decision!

As always, we had a great time. I can't say enough about Dennis (Captain Dennis). He worked his butt off for us trying to get us fish. He must have put 50 miles on the boat. Ernie just about jumped over Tyler to get his line in the water when Tyler caught that nice Perch. I can't wait to do it all again!

That was a fat perch!
Dirty water was our nemesis yesterday bu I am still glad we went. It is a beautiful world over there.
I am ready do do it it again. I know Bob wants to go too....let's start working on a date to go before winter sets in.
