I recently got back from my annual 2 week trip to Minnesota. Stayed at the family lake cabin and did lots of fishing. The water (and the air) was cold this year but the bite was still good. I fished 5 or 6 different lakes and caught lots of largemouth, smallmouth, walleyes, northern pike, and several different kinds of panfish. We kept about a dozen walleyes for a fish fry and released everything else. So here are some of the pics!
The smallies loved jerkbaits.
Walleyebarrow
Loon
This was one of only a couple calm days. Foggy too.
Nice crappie
There were tons of Orioles.
Bassin in the rain.
Pre-spawn smallie.
I caught this Storz beer can while walleye fishing. This company hasn't been in business since 1972. Whoever drank it probably had a few already because it was opened upside-down.

Great set of pictures. So how much did the biggest of each species weigh?

Not sure...didn't weigh any of them. I brought a scale but lost it on the first day, still have no idea where it could be.

Great report..
The beer opened from the bottom is a common practice. That way you know it is your beer. Also some older persons felt the pull tab was too dangerous and continue to use a can opener.
If you have been cut on the lip from a pull tab you would understand.

Yes, part of my mis-spent childhood. Also learned about Coors push top cans with the loss of a fingernail. OUCH!
Or the new pop tops where your stache gets hung up in the opener..

Great trip, and the pics are as well. The thing that always amazes me is the average size of the fish. You watch the many Lindner shows and other tv hosts hoisting big bass after big bass from the northern waters. Seems surprising to me that with the shorter growing season they manage to get so large. Must be less pressure on the fish, or they go from post spawn directly to feeding up for winter.
Regardless, you had a good catch, and Ernie has something to look forward to.

Yeah, it's the opposite of what you'd expect. The average size fish I catch in Minnesota is much bigger than in VA, and that goes for all species. I think you're correct as to the reasons why.
