Occoquan River May 1

Fished the Occoquan yesterday from noon to 4pm. Water was very clear and 63 degrees. Main trip purpose was to take the maiden voyage in my new (to me) 2012 Hobie Revo 13. I loved the Revo but the fishing was slow for everyone I saw and talked to with most people getting nothing or 1-3 fish. One woman got a snakehead at the river’s fall line on a swimbait...looked about 24”. No surface activity for shad either. One guy who had 2 hickory shad in 2 hours said I should have been there last week as the results were phenomenal. My friend got 1 bass and I got 1 catfish and 1 crappie. The crappie was my biggest ever at 14”. My friend weighed it and said it was 2 lbs 1 oz.

All in all, it was a beautiful day to be out on the water.
