I met up with Paul Kordon and Wes Wakefield this morning to do the Lander to Point of Rocks float. After shuttling, we were on the water a little after 6 AM. We were in the top water bite period but it never happened. We could see fish slurping bugs all morning (where was my fly rod when I needed it!). As a matter of fact, we didn't catch anything in the 1st 30-40 minutes which had us perplexed. Finally, we got a few small smallies and we began floating down river. We only had until 9 AM so we paced ourselves by not spending too much time in one spot.
I was fixated on catching one on buzz bait and I finally did!
Except it was NOT a smallie! Finally, a decent smallie hit my grub....
....and then another one!
Paul and Wes were on the other side of the river and were steadily catching smallies up to 12 inches. As we neared the finish line, I said hi to the neighbors....
....and I threw my grub in between the cows and got a nice 10 incher......which scattered the cows!
As we were about to put in (9:30 AM), I got a shot of Wes and Paul right after they got a double!
Then....Paul got one near my yak and I was able to get his picture.
Right before we took out, I landed a nice 14" smallie.....and promptly forgot to take a picture!
It was a great morning of fishing....cool in the beginning but NICE!!
Final tally:
Ernie- 9 smallies (biggest was 14"), 1 largemouth and 1 blue gill
Paul- 11 smallies
Wes- 8 smallies

Thanks for the float Ernie. Had a great time! The bad part about fishing is, as soon as you're done...you want to go again. It's like drinking water and never quenching your thirst! DANG!
