John Nguyen and I met right before the sun came out for a morning of fly fishing for shad at Fletcher's.
What a spectacular day!
We got to our target area and it was crowded as one would suspect on a beautiful Saturday morning....
We found our spot but it was slow pickin's but John took the skunk off with a herring....
....and then a hickory shad.
Then, my old friend Mike Bailey came by to say hi and told us what was happening at this great spring fishery.
The next several slides are a tutorial on catching stripers (4 in 30 minutes) right on a seam (right next to us!).
Hooked up!
Ummmm, Mike....I wanted to take a picture of it!
OK...."I will go catch another one"
This is never good....
....we heard someone fell in last night.
John caught another nice hickory!
And Mike continued his lesson!
Mike is a BAD influence on me.....
I could not stand it any longer and I just happened to have a spinning rod with me. A few casts later, I connected with this nice 26 incher!
John kept plucking a shad here and there as we went down river but I finally connected with what we were after.
I only caught 2 fish but I was just fine. John landed a few hickory shads. Most boats caught a few but one particular boat was on the right seam and they were hammering them. It was fun to watch.
We called it a day around noon and went back to the craziness at Gravelly. It is always a great time fishing with John!
The traffic coming into the city was NUTS.....GW Parkway was a parking lot. Luckily, it was open leaving the city and I made good time coming home.
