5-31-08, Goose Creek - Lansdowne area

It had been since last year that i went down to goose creek so i headed down this morning and saw lots of largemouth in the 1lb. range cruising the banks... there were LOTS of minnows up in the rocks... managed to catch 1 largemouth close to 1lb... and a very nice smallie, prob weighed about 1.5lbs... what a great fight...  that made my day smile

That's a nice smallie at a close by place. I caught a few smallies on the fly rod there last year....lots of fun!

What access point are you using to fish Goose Creek? Are there any bank fishing areas there?

i go right across from the golf course and you can climb over rocks and stuff to fish off the banks.

Re: 5-31-08, Goose Creek - Lansdowne area

the smallie fishing has been great on goose over the last week... managed to catch 13 on thursday with most being between 7"-10" the two biggest being 1.5 lbs... did lose one that was closer to 2lbs and i saw a few greenies that were well over 2 lbs crusing above the falls

also caught this 2lb smallie early last week by the riverside pkwy bridge that must have jumped at least 3 -4 feet out of the water... wish i had that action shot!!

i will be making a few trips down in the evening later this week so if anyone would like to join me, send me an email the day before and we can hook up

i suggest throwing a super fluke in arkansas shiner with/without a weighted hook... fish it with a lot of force... lots of quick quick jerks and don't stop it... probably looks like i'm having a seizure but those smallies can't stand that crazy erratic retrieve

That's tempting!! You going Tuesday PM?

Paul Kordon (BassMasterP) goes down there a lot and I went with him once last year.  There was almost no water but we still caught 'em.

Those are nice fish!!

I would love to catch some smallies! When do you usually go?

Nice smallies!  Do you think there would be any spots suitable for a fly rod?

I have fished there with a fly rod, plenty of room on some of the the banks and better if you wade!

Did you catch that huge one above or below the bank?  I would love to go Tuesday P.M.

to anyone who ventures out, i suggest hanging out and not fishing for 5-10 minutes and try to locate the schools of minnows... u can watch for them being chased and jumping or throw a bait out and reel it in super quick to make em scatter and jump... once you find the minnows, those smallies aren't far behind smile
